SRS is seeking full-time Journeyman Meat Cutters to join our Orange County, NY ShopRite team! This role is responsible for cutting, slicing, and trimming meat items according to the company’s programs, processes and food handling standards, while maintaining our strict quality assurance conditions.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Adhere to the posted attendance schedule and work shifts as per applicable collective bargaining agreement.
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
- Promote a friendly and favorable store image to customers.
- Answer the phone promptly and in a professional manner to provide customer service.
- Receive, communicate and fulfill customer requests (i.e. orders) as needed, using company forms and procedures.
- Dress according to company policy to include; uniform and name badge (including but not limited to: hair net, hat, hair restraint and beard guard).
- Must be knowledgeable in the various types of meat products carried.
- Assist customers with product understanding, selection, handling, preparation and serving questions.
- Cut meat and prepare related products in the variety, size, quality and trim prescribed by company and department standards.
- Handle damaged & spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling level of these items.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of perishable inventory.
- Follow approved procedures for cutting, slicing, trimming, packaging, wrapping, weighing, price marking, dating, stocking and restocking product to ensure department and Quality Assurance standards are met.
- Ability to use, service and check equipment daily for proper performance (including but not limited to: band saw, cuber, patty machine, auto wrapper, hand wrapper, mixer, grinder, slicer, bone duster and knives).
- Responsible for the upward communication regarding the department status (i.e. damaged/broken equipment, customer service issue, etc.).
- Ensure general housekeeping, sanitation, department and Quality Assurance standards are in compliance with our store policy. (i.e., keep the floors and work areas clear of debris and spills.)
- Follow department sanitation and Quality Assurance standards by cleaning and sanitizing all work surfaces, utensils and equipment. Follow standards for hand washing.
- Ensure the merchandising and operating standards are maintained to maximize sales and profit.
- Ability to learn, remain up to date on changing standards and requirements for Operational Merchandising Guidelines, CGO, Quality Assurance and Safety Standards.
- Ensure that approved procedures for unloading and verifying the breakdown of deliveries are completed.
- Ensure products in backroom and sales floor comply with CGO guidelines and are maintained by date.
- General administrative duties including processing paperwork & maintaining department shrink project books.
- Complete and ensure all applicable department training programs, training standards and Shopper Loyalty behaviors are maintained.
- Ensure the Sampling Program and event seminars are executed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability read, write and speak English.
- Ability to perform basic Math Skills.
- Ability to walk, talk, listen, see, sit, stand, touch, climb, lift, bend, stretch, push and pull wheeled equipment loaded with product.
- Ability to operate machinery.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including freezer, coolers, temperature controlled meat department and sales floor.
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification required or approved equivalent.
- Pallet Jack Certification required.
- Frequently lift or move product, supplies, equipment up to 50 pounds to various heights in locations throughout the store facilities.
- Occasionally lift or move product, supplies, equipment greater than 50 pounds as a team lift.
