What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Practical Nurse position at Shore Medical Center?
General Summary:
Provides primary clinical support to the provider, patient and their family to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient’s condition. Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing of same in medical record to ensure continuity and quality of care. The ideal candidate would help provide quality patient care, is a team player, has a positive attitude, and possesses exceptional customer service while ensuring a positive patient experience, must be able to communicate effectively with patients and families, maintain a friendly demeanor, and be compassionate and understanding.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Obtains vital statistics and updates patient information; records notes in patient e-chart
- Provides basic patient care as ordered by physician, mid-levels and allied health professionals. Administers medications and treatments as directed. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician and health professional advice/instructions.
- Handles patient telephone inquiries regarding medical information and advice, following practice triage protocols. Handles pharmacy communications regarding patient prescriptions.
- Maintains medical supply levels in exam rooms. Responsible for instrument sterilization procedures.
- Functions according to delegated authority and follows practice policies/procedures.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and performs position responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner.
- Other similar and related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrates clinical competence in the clinical knowledge and skills area of practice, and assisting providers with procedures.
- Graduation from an approved practical nursing program.
- Minimum one year of LPN experience; medical practice setting experience preferred
- State-licensed practical nurse.
- Previous Primary Care experience preferred.
