Description

At Shredfast Inc. The Industrial Painter (Tier III) works within a classic to intermittent manufacturing production line. The Industrial Painter is responsible for completed frames and small parts to be prepped and painted as the production schedule demands. It is the responsibility of the Painter to represent the quality of the Paint department’s product output and work constructively with the Fabrication department Lead and Quality Control department Lead to ensure quality standards are being achieved. The Industrial Painter is stationed in the paint bay as part of the manufacturing assembly line, receiving built frames and custom parts from the upstream fabrication departments and supplying coated frames and parts to the downstream assembly departments.

Duties and responsibilities

• Perform quality assurance, provide support and instruction to junior staff (Painter's Helper & Painter - Tier 1)

• Effectively communicate with other production department leads, participate in weekly production lead meetings, and provide Paint Department production updates to management.

• Read, analyze, and interpret detailed drawings.

• Apply epoxy coatings to surfaces by use of brush, roller, air spray pots.

• Monitor and maintain paint and blast pots during paint operations.

• Responsible for mixing paints to match standard colors of products and to the proper consistency and viscosity for spraying.

• Wear a mask, operate, and maintain fresh air hood and other safety equipment as needed, when working with paint products emitting hazardous vapors.

• Visually inspect surfaces prepared for coating application.

• Use of hand tools, power tools such as portable disc grinders to remove existing slag.

• Proficiency with surface filler materials, sandpaper, various types of hand grinders, wire brushes, files, and sandpaper to build up, smooth, and remove scale and burrs from part surfaces.

• Instruct junior staff on safe operation of sandblast cabinet for small parts prep.

• Clean and store paint tools and equipment after use

• Maintain a clean and organized department free from any unnecessary hazards associated with the work being performed within the paint department.

• Storing and disposing of chemicals in accordance with company policies and procedures, Federal, State and Local laws

• Driving forklift to deliver painted parts to other departments.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be in good physical condition and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to stay on task with good attention to detail
  • Dependable transportation required
  • Must maintain a clean and organized work environment

Additional Information

All applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. This is a Safety Sensitive position that requires a pre-employment drug screen that includes marijuana (tetrahydrocannabinol – THC & nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites- CBD), amphetamines, cocaine metabolites, opioids (including heroin, morphine, and codeine), and phencyclidine (PCP).


Shift Schedule:

Monday to Friday / 7:00am – 3:30pm (non-exempt) for Full-Time position

  • Overtime opportunities available

Requirements

• Must be able to pass applicable respiratory fit testing.

• 3 years of applying undercoat sealer and finishing coats of paint in a professional setting.

• Previous experience in industrial coating using epoxies and urethanes with plural component equipment.

• Basic industry specific math knowledge

• Ability to paint, apply primers and epoxy with spray guns.

• Able to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedural manuals.

• Ability to use hand tools including drills and grinders in a safe and effective manner.

• Must be detail oriented and thorough in following protocol and procedures.

• Forklift certification will be provided.

• Overhead crane training will be provided.

• Propane training will be provided.
