Role Purpose:
The Director Geology of Sibelco North America is responsible for originating, planning and conducting proactive, business-focused, geological projects of benefit to the Company.
The Director Geology is recognized as a technical geological expert within Sibelco’s North America Operation and the global Geology & Mining group, and oversees, supports and manages the Geology and Mining staff at Sibelco’s Spruce Pine High-Purity Quartz Operations in performing various geological projects, including geologic modeling, reserves and resources evaluation, ore control and QA/QC projects.
This role will also participate in acquisition studies for other industrial minerals interests as requested. The Director Geology will coordinate his activities with the Executive Vice President of International Operations, as well as the Vice President of Geology & Mining.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize geological expertise to support, manage and oversee required work to complete scientific studies pertaining to geological reserve evaluations at Sibelco’s properties, addressing the important quality and physical parameters and working closely with Operations Geologist, Senior Mine Planning Engineer, and various Operations functions to achieve Sibelco’s strategic goals.
- Provide leadership for and oversee Sibelco’s Geology & Mining function in North and South America.
- Develop a working knowledge of the unique and complex high-purity quartz deposits and operations in the Spruce Pine region, as well as other potential related acquisitions.
- Provide geological expertise in a cost effective manner for the evaluation of potential acquisitions and participate in special task forces when requested.
- Participate with multi-discipline teams in business-focused geological, geochemical, geostatistical and mineral processing studies at the plants to address ore-related quality control issues.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with Sibelco’s Technology & Innovation Department, Commercial Department, and global Geology & Mining Department in order to proactively propose geological projects of interest to Sibelco.
- Occasional international travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Practice and encourage safe working behavior and maintain safe working environment at all times.
Minimum Professional Requirements:
M. Sc. Geology plus at least five years as a Senior Geologist
