We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer with strong software engineering and research expertise to join our Automation Runtime Systems Research Group in Princeton, NJ. The right person will have a mix of research experience in software engineering and a strong knowledge of industrial automation systems to drive research projects in Siemens!
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer. This position will be based in Princeton, NJ. However you may work remotely.
The Challenge
In the role of Lead Software Engineer, you will:
- Lead and develop highly distributed embedded firmware and applications (C / C ) running on the Edge devices
- Lead and drive research topics on the industrial data and control infrastructure for the automation systems of the future
- Work with Researchers and Software Engineers to build concepts and develop working prototypes
- Present technical results to customers and acquire new businesses
- Seek advocacy from appropriate Siemens’ business units on potential use cases
- Develop sophisticated engineering software
- Design, implement, test, optimize, and document software components
- Fast prototyping, feasibility studies, specification, and implementation of product components
- Build relationships with customers to understand software and business requirements
- Guide interns and junior employees in implementation and quality assurance
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor, Master or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Autonomous Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Lead Software Engineers require a minimum of 10 years of experience in similar research/software engineering roles.
- Programming skills in C / C
- Knowledge of (real-time) operating systems (e.g. Linux, VxWorks).
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems for discrete or process industries
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal & written) skills
- Real-world problem-solving and a hands-on, can-do mentality.
- Where permitted by applicable law, Siemens may require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 based on job requirements, and in accordance with an accommodation based on legally protected reasons
- Experience with IoT and Cloud systems
- Background in robotics such as ROS programming
- Skills in C#/Python/Javascript programming

The pay range for this position is $99,000 – $169,700. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
