Sift is hiring a business-minded Commercial Counsel to join the growing Sift team. You’ll have an impactful role as a business partner working across the entire company. You’ll advise various teams on commercial terms, business operations, and strategy. You'll need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally and excited about learning Sift’s technology.

What you'll achieve

  • Independently draft and negotiate NDAs, vendor agreements, sales agreements, data processing agreements, and other key commercial agreements. 
  • Update and manage Legal’s playbooks and templates to reflect best practices.
  • Manage our contracts management system and contract processes to optimize interactions with other departments, as well as increase the efficiency and scalability of commercial legal support.
  • Identify and evaluate business and legal risks, and find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving business goals.
  • Guide cross-functional teams on general contract questions and improve and coordinate resources and training programs. 
  • Provide effective and strategic legal advice to internal business clients. 
  • Build strong relationships and work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, including Sales, Sales Operations, Technical Services, Finance, Procurement, and other relevant teams.
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry and privacy laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide advice and counseling.

About you

  • 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, including prior in-house and/or law firm experience.
  • J.D. from a top-tier law school and membership with at least one state bar.
  • Strong track record of drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with an ability to communicate (both written and verbal) in a concise, digestible manner (especially for non-lawyers).
  • Sound and practical business judgment and ability to manage multiple, high priority, competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws.
  • A friendly and flexible team player who is willing to help with projects and assignments beyond the commercial sale cycle.
