Job Description – Executive Director
This position requires strong leadership, management, and fundraising skills, as well as a deep commitment to the organization's mission and values. The Executive Director reports to the chair of the board of directors and is responsible for implementing the strategic vision while ensuring the organization's financial stability and long-term sustainability.
Essential Duties:
- Strategic Leadership to develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan in collaboration with the board of directors, staff, and key stakeholders. Provide visionary leadership to drive the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives. Stay informed about trends, best practices, and emerging issues in the related SFAU program sectors, funding sources and non-profit arena.
- Financial Management and Fundraising. Responsible for the development and management of the organization’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and compliance. Oversee the development and implementation of effective fundraising strategies to secure financial resources from diverse sources, including grants, donations, sponsorships, and partnerships. o Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, and other funding sources to support the organization’s mission and programs.
- Organizational Management. Recruit, lead, manage, and inspire a high-performing team of staff members, volunteers, and interns. Foster a positive organizational culture that values collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity. Oversee day-to-day operations, including program management, financial administration, marketing, communications, and information technology.
- Board Governance and Relations. Collaborate with the board of directors to develop and implement the organization’s strategic direction. Keep board of directors informed about the organization’s activities, financial status, and key issues. Foster strong relationships with board members, engaging them in strategic discussions, committees, and fundraising efforts.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement. Represent the organization in the community, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including partners, government agencies, media, and other non-profits. Advocate for the organization’s mission and programs, raising awareness of critical issues and promoting positive change. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its impact and value to various audiences.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., non-profit management, business administration, public administration) is required. A master’s degree in related field a plus.
- At least 3-5 years in a senior management role with experience managing a team.
- Experience in non-profit leadership preferred.
- Knowledge of nonprofit operations, governance, and financial management preferred.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and resource development, including grant writing and donor cultivation, preferred.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with a track record of successfully implementing organizational strategies.
- Strong organizational and program management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Passion for the organization’s mission and commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
Language Ability
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – verbal, written and presentation – with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, in a team environment and with management.
Computer Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google suite of software and applications.
- Ability to manage cross content of all social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of non-profit software preferred
