Summary:

The Cloud SME will serve as the Engineering Lead for a multi-disciplined engineering team supporting a large, complex cybersecurity, engineering and PMO contract for a federal customer. The Engineering Lead will possess proven experience developing and supporting strategic and operational capabilities around virtual environments. The Engineering Lead will have experience in developing Return on Investment analysis and technical options related to the business objectives of the organization. In addition, the Engineering Lead will provide senior-level technical solutioning expertise in cloud computing best practices and technology to drive cloud adoption. She/he will guide development teams with designing new applications with a cloud-native approach to application architecture.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven and have the inherent interest to continue learning new technologies to solve problems collaboratively.

Job Duties:

  • Experience providing leadership in building and launching a cloud strategy and cloud environment for use in federal agencies and transforming traditional infrastructure deployment model to maximize the benefit of the cloud infrastructure with automation and monitoring
  • Designing and delivering cloud infrastructure strategies aligned with business objectives with a focus on migrations and deployments.
  • Drive multiple engineering initiatives to completion collaboratively, efficiently and with a focus on continual progress and continual improvement
  • Interface with senior Federal Leadership and contractor stakeholders alike to communicate overall solutions approach
  • Provide overall engineering direction and oversight through engineering and cloud development lifecycles across multiple operational and technical disciplines
  • Develop return on investment, analysis of alternatives and overall estimated cost reports as part of the solutioning process
  • Extensive experience developing technical solutions aligned towards business goals and the strategic objectives of a federal organization
  • Establish relationships and communication rhythms with major stakeholders early and often: (Engineers, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Privacy, O&M) to develop, deploy, and maintain secure cloud network architectures aligned to internal standards and current best practices
  • Interface directly with internal and external clients and vendors and serve as primary technical point-of-contact for all matters related to Cloud Operations, Cloud Connectivity & Cloud Architecture
  • Extensive experience utilizing existing technologies, platforms, and solutions to develop enhancements, solve problems and automate for the federal customer.
  • Contribute to a team of Systems and Network Engineers to develop and implement cloud migration strategies and roadmaps
  • Document and socialize cloud strategies and roadmaps to all levels of Federal management
  • Plan and coordinate tactical activities to support cloud infrastructure builds and automation with engineering, operations, and security teams
  • Support security teams to implement required controls for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions
  • Develop and communicate technical documentation of existing and new cloud architectures within responsible area(s)
  • Integrate AWS and Azure network and security services with enterprise tooling that enable monitoring, alerting, and retention of critical event information
  • Review and evaluate new AWS and Azure network services and service enhancements relevant to our current and future state infrastructure
  • Develop and communicate technical documentation of existing and new cloud architectures within responsible area(s) including but not limited to transport models and architectures which are TIC3 compliant
  • Support project managers to develop detailed WBS activities and project schedules to perform cloud implementation and migration activities

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • Experience leading a team
  • Bachelor's degree and over 15 years of professional technical experience; OR
  • Master's degree and over 12 years of professional technical experience
  • Cloud certification in Amazon AWS OR Microsoft Azure
  • Networking certification: Cisco CCNA OR CCNP
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud and traditional network concepts and services, such as OSI layers, TCP/IP, static and dynamic routing, packet filtering and analysis
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and developing integrations.
  • Strong experience with AWS and Azure IAM, secrets management, and PKI
  • First-hand knowledge of SLA's and KPI's as they apply to productivity and performance of IT systems and operations, especially in a Virtual Environment.
  • Operational or engineering experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, or similar Cloud Services
  • 3 -5 years of experience architecting, supporting and or delivering in public and private cloud compute environments with a minimum of at least 2 years of hands-on experience in delivery and migration of cloud services or platforms in an enterprise or global environment
  • Experience with source code management, version control, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience and knowledge of networking for container-based infrastructures, middleware, microservices
  • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing technical solutioning, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy supporting the federal workspace
  • Experience utilizing a focused, collaborative mindset to include all stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a project or initiative
  • Strong Agile-minded perspective on iterative, continual delivery and the ability to decompose a large, complex engineering effort into smaller, executable pieces
  • Deft ability to facilitate deeper technical sessions and clearly articulate highly technical concepts in a compelling, persuasive manner to non-technical persons.

  • Extensive experience in the design of cloud infrastructures using industry best practices.
  • Experience in planning, designing, and executing the migration of enterprise infrastructures to the cloud.
  • Experience providing leadership in building and launching a cloud strategy and cloud environment for use in federal agencies and transforming traditional infrastructure deployment model to maximize the benefit of the cloud infrastructure with automation and monitoring.
  • Extensive experience with architecture and solutions development to drive cloud availability, capacity, performance, and security
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information
  • Excellent ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with numerous counterparts and build rapport, including contract stakeholders, government representatives and transportation officials.
  • Capable of working under tight deadlines and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time and resource management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and function effectively as a member of a team and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical/business solutions to personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, initiative, and work ethic
  • Ability to work odd hours outside of standard schedule as needed, e.g., weekends or after normal work hours.
