Performance Tester

In this critical role, the Performance Tester will support the Department of Veterans Affairs by enhancing the GI Bill claims processing system, focusing on improving system performance and reliability to ensure that veterans receive their benefits efficiently and without delay.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

• Engage in comprehensive performance test planning, execution, and validation, as well as capacity planning and application performance management.
• Review and refine the existing performance testing strategy, conduct audits of current Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs), and identify areas for improvement in the testing execution approach.
• Utilize advanced performance testing tools such as JMeter, Neoload, and Loadrunner, and tuning APIs for optimal performance within AWS/cloud and microservices environments.
• Apply profiling tools like Dynatrace, OpenSearch, and Splunk to analyze application performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend necessary enhancements to ensure robust and scalable system performance.
• Conduct in-depth performance troubleshooting, including heap dump and thread dump analysis, to resolve complex issues.
• Provide expert recommendations for application and infrastructure scaling to meet future demands efficiently.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience

• Extensive experience with performance testing best practices, including understanding JVM settings and the impact of network variability on the performance of distributed systems.
• Proficiency in using performance testing and profiling tools as mentioned.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues and effectively communicate findings and recommendations.

Certifications

• Certifications relevant to performance testing, cloud services, or system administration are beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in government IT projects, especially those focused on system modernization and performance optimization.
• Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of working collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
