Summary
This role is instrumental in driving the vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs in collaboration with the Area leadership. Responsible for analyzing internal operations and identifying areas requiring process enhancement while collaborating with leaders to leverage other retail opportunities and efficiencies as able. This includes helping drive profitability through prudent management of costs, national programs, product recommendations, and rebates. Responsible for leading all financial analysis related activities including budgeting and budget management, projections, capital expenditures and management. Leads the initial financial analysis and other due diligence efforts for the business. In concert with the Area leadership, coordinates, manages, and communicates Area strategies to ensure performance and compliance and minimize liability and exposure. Performs contract analysis and contract negotiations. Serves as a representative to constituents including JRS leaders, senior chemical company personnel, chemical purchasing cooperatives, fertilizer companies and internal partners/customers, etc. as needed. Works closely with field personnel to develop and implement innovative operating strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the execution on long-term strategic business plans by providing business expertise and an understanding of the industry and the market. Apply financial/market knowledge to assess and analyze group growth opportunities and company capabilities and address immediate and long-term critical issues and obstacles that may impact the successful achievement of group and business unit objectives. Proactively seeks opportunities to partner with other leaders to deliver the highest value to the Simplot Company. 30%
- Partners with Market and Operations Managers to oversee sales projections and development of sales plans and value-added services to retain/enhance current customer base and pursue new market share expansion opportunities. Coordinates and aligns projections/plans with marketing efforts, production, distribution warehousing and sourcing capabilities. Assists with establishing and implementing strategies that support the Group's short- and long-term strategy. Work with Market Managers to identify local strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for financial improvement.
- Identify historical and geographic trends of crops, product groups, etc. to improve product mix and profitability. Evaluate and respond to growth opportunities through vigilance to industry trends, competitive activity and market data to grow current business and/or expand into new markets. Assess with the Area leadership, the viability of acquisitions, business alliances or joint ventures. 20%
- Provides leadership and advocacy to Market and Operations Managers to facilitate optimal performance and returns to all stakeholders; e.g. owners, leadership, customers, employees. This includes focus on developing standardized processes, enhancing operational efficiencies, building plans that emphasize continuous improvement and cost control. 10%
- Represents Area to build business relationships with other Divisions (e.g., Wholesale, Logistics, etc.), customers, suppliers, partners, and industry and government representatives by recognizing needs, opportunities or potential challenges. Collaborates to meet mutual goals in a manner that demonstrates personal and professional integrity (e.g., partnering to create and execute a large grower strategy). 10%
- Assists Area leadership in setting, analyzing and interpreting financial metrics as they relate to organization wide goals. This includes managing capital investment requests, proposals, and expenses, setting key performance metrics. 10%
Typical Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
