Summary
The Micro Lab Lead maintains operations within the Simplot microbiology laboratory contributing to Simplot’s Food Safety program. This includes microbial analyses of food product, shelf life research projects, laboratory expenses, analytical instrument maintenance, and inventory control of supplies
Key Responsibilities
- Responds to internal customer’s inquiries regarding micro test sampling schedule, test results, corrective actions and product release issues.
- Presents training modules to factory plant personnel on microbiology and environmental program procedures.
- Completes data entry into the laboratory quality assurance systems (MLA and MMS) and implements Good Laboratory Practices
- Proficient in ordering necessary lab supplies via JDE and/or direct with vendor. Assists in maintaining necessary inventory of all media/chemicals.
- Participate in carrying out routine lab functions including but not limited to, biohazards waste containment and removal, inventory, cleaning of lab equipment and supplies, preparing media, and collecting and disposing of transgenic tissue or tubers
- Conducts allergen testing to support Gluten Free claims
- Updates and maintains all Safety Data Sheet documentation
Typical Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Relevant Experience
Other Information
- One plus year’s coursework and/or experience preferred.
- Highly skilled in scientific procedures and lab safety
- Must have knowledge of food microbiology, food chemistry and food processing.
- Basic math skills
- Good knowledge of computer systems and calculator
- Ability to work in a refrigerated and frozen environments
- Good communication skills
- Needs to be organized, efficient, and have good time management skills.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
Pay:$23.95/HR
