Diagnostic Laboratory Assistant
**Job Overview:**
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Diagnostic Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of diagnostic tests. As a Diagnostic Laboratory Assistant, you will work closely with laboratory technologists and other healthcare professionals to contribute to the timely and precise diagnosis of medical conditions.
**Responsibilities:**
1. **Specimen Collection and Processing:**
- Collect, label, and process various types of biological specimens for diagnostic testing.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of specimens to maintain sample integrity.
- Adhere to established protocols and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of contamination.
2. **Equipment Operation:**
- Maintain laboratory equipment used in specimen analysis, such as centrifuges, microscopes, and automated analyzers.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure equipment accuracy.
3. **Data Entry and Record Keeping:**
- Accurately enter patient and test information into the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Maintain detailed records of specimen collection, processing, and test results.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for laboratory findings.
4. **Quality Control:**
- Report any deviations from established standards and assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
5. **Collaboration:**
- Collaborate with laboratory technologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to enhance laboratory processes.
6. **Compliance:**
- Adhere to regulatory guidelines, safety protocols, and quality assurance standards.
- Stay informed about advancements in laboratory technology and participate in relevant training programs.
**Qualifications:**
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in medical laboratory technology or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory setting is required.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with laboratory information systems.
**Physical Requirements:**
This position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry moderate loads.
