Job Title: Psychologist

Reports to: Clinical Director

Job Purpose: The Psychologist will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating people for mental, emotional, behavioral, educational, and developmental disorders. The Psychologist will specialize in the study of human behavior, emotions, and mental processes. The Psychologist will provide expertise in understanding the complex workings of the mind and its impact on individual and collective well-being. In addition, the Psychologist will employ various scientific methods and theories to assess, diagnose, and treat psychological disorders, as well as to promote healthy behavior and improve overall mental health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological assessments with a variety of populations and ages. Assess patients and provide recommendations for treatments.
  • Perform psychological assessments, testing, and evaluation.
  • Provide diagnosis based on assessments, testing, and evaluation.
  • Develop and recommend treatment plans based on patient needs and diagnosis.
  • Provide referrals when necessary for additional care, evaluation, or treatment. Collaborate and coordinate with colleagues and other professionals to provide the best care possible.
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner and adhere to agency documentation policy.
  • Ensure all services are completed according to relevant ethical and professional standards of care. Ensure adherence to Iowa Code and all other policies and regulations related to psychology services at SMHC, and promote adherence to the Code of Ethics.
  • Provide direct clinical services, including intake assessments, crisis assessments, group therapy, individual therapy, and hospital prescreens.
  • Periodically conduct chart audits to ensure up-to-date treatment plans, progress notes, etc. are accurately completed. Review case records for completeness, consistency, and quality of mental health services provided including application of proper techniques; ensures compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Provide clinical supervision for new psychologists who need their post-doctoral supervision hours.
  • Employ various therapeutic approaches and techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions, to help individuals manage their symptoms, develop coping strategies, and improve their overall well-being.
  • Maintain confidentiality, respect client autonomy, and prioritize the well-being and safety of clients. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest research and best practices in the field.

Experience and Education:

Required:

  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology or counseling psychology.
  • Completion of a clinical internship.
  • Possible additional requirements for specialties.
  • Knowledge of psychological theories, principles and techniques is mandatory.
  • Valid unrestricted state-issued license to practice clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong familiarity with assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate within ethical and professional standards of care.
