ABOUT SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF ORANGE
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange have served the people of California for over 100 years. In
that time, they extended their presence across the United States and in other countries
including Australia, El Salvador, Mexico, and Papua New Guinea. It all began with just a few
women saying yes to God’s call.
Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange have been pioneers wherever they have seen a need. They
created CCD programs, assisted alcoholics and addicts, provided shelter and support for
migrants and homeless, fed the hungry and visited prisoners. Ministries founded by Sisters of
St. Joseph, guide at-risk youth out of poverty in Anaheim, Santa Ana, and surrounding
communities. St. Joseph Justice Center works for systemic change where conditions cause
ignorance, poverty, suffering and oppression. The Center for Spiritual Development assists
people seeking God.
What the Sisters do today is the same as they have always done since the first Sisters of St.
Joseph congregation formed in LePuy, France in 1650. Go into the neighborhoods, find the
needs, and partner with others to meet those needs using any work of mercy within their
power. They serve the dear neighbor no matter who they are;tear down walls that divide and
build bridges that unite; and adapt to the needs of the times. Long standing and new ministries
continue to evolve in areas like education, health care, social services, spiritual formation and
more.
All are welcome to join the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in serving the dear neighbor through
a mission of unity and reconciliation. Visit csjorange.org and the congregation’s social media
