Description

This individual will assume responsibility for active participation in the development and delivery of all instructional activities in the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and for service and research functions related to specialty interest and expertise in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Examples of Duties

Administration 5%
A. Participate in departmental and University committees.
B. Participate in professional societies.
C. Assist with the Perinatal Outreach Program, to include site visits and M&Ms.

II. Teaching 20%
A. Participate in the development and implementation of specific graduate and undergraduate curricula in maternal fetal medicine, fetal evaluation, and high risk pregnancy in general.
B. Participate in continuing education programs in high risk pregnancy and fetal evaluation for the clinical faculty and practicing physicians in the area.
C. Provide a role model as a teacher in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
D. Participate in medical student year 3 curriculum education.

III. Research 10%
A. Encourage fellows and residents, as well as members and residents in other divisions, to do research and publish the results, particularly in the field of maternal-fetal medicine and sonography.
B. Provide a role model as an investigator and medical writer.
C. Assist in establishing clinical research protocols for maternal/fetal medicine, both laboratory and clinical.

IV. Service 65%
A. Demonstrates by actions, commitment to the mission and the behavioral standards of SIU School of Medicine. Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers through collaboration and partnership; compassion and respect; integrity and accountability; diversity and inclusion; as well as continuous learning and improvement.
B. Represent the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in departmental, school, university, and community matters as requested.
C. Assist in the development of programs for the care of the high-risk pregnant patient.
D. Assist in programs for the development of pregnancy evaluations.
E. Maintain, and where possible, develop intrauterine fetal treatment projects.
F. Maintain a perinatal practice in order to maintain clinical proficiency.
G. Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, house staff, students, and fellow practitioners.
H. Assist in providing a peer review for assessing clinical practice for faculty within the Department.
I. Attend national and international meetings, symposiums, etc., in perinatology or related fields for the purpose of contributing, gaining of further knowledge, and serving as an example to other physicians.
J. Present papers at perinatal meetings and meetings in other related fields when possible.
K. Serve on committees of national, regional, and state societies pertaining to perinatology.
L. Represent the Department of Clinical Affairs and/or the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine on committees as requested by the Executive Director for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
M. Participate in clinical outreach services, including, but not limited to, Quincy and Decatur.

Qualifications

A. Board certification or Board eligibility in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
B. Completion of an approved residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
C. Must possess an MD degree.
D. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois at the time of hire.
E. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
