The Manager, Software Engineering will be responsible for leading and managing the Software Engineer discipline and a team of professionals at Skillable. Ensure consistent oversight of designing, developing, and maintaining software applications as well as the creation of new products and features. Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, including architectural decisions and code reviews.


Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead an engineering department by identifying and developing required engineering competencies required to achieve company OKRs
  • Drive teams to create unit and functional tests, contributing to our commitment to Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
  • Hire, train, coach and mentor engineers and supporting staff.
  • Ensure regular and on-going talent development discussions and career planning meetings with team members to provide constructive feedback and support their growth
  • Continuously improve business processes and practices related to engineering functions
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management aligning teams to optimize performance to deliver prioritized Features
  • Coach, mentor and manage a team to ensure productive performance and talent pipeline growth within the department and broader business division.
  • Develop, create and own the delivery of appropriate onboarding and training materials to ensure successful assimilation with the team and division.
  • Contribute to enhancing how customers interact with our products and streamline support processes for our internal teams.
  • Design, train and implement engineering best practices. Engage in understanding market trends by independent learning and research.
  • Propose, prototype and champion technologies and processes that continuously help Skillable improve our SDLC
  • Assure compliance with all standards, policies, practices, etc.
  • Foster innovation by actively exploring and adopting new cutting-edge technologies
  • Partner with Security and Operations team to shift left secure coding practices and tooling
  • Encourage teams to be forward looking with spikes to setup the business on key Features in the backlog
  • Support and promote the company values through positive interactions with both internal and external partners and customers on a regular basis.
  • Other strategic business initiatives or cross-functional project involvement as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in a related field such computer science, or equivalent years of professional and related experience.
  • 6 years working on largescale software product engineering delivering in a complex environment
  • 3 years of professional software management experience managing, mentoring and coaching highly effective teams.
  • Successful Engineering and deployment of large-scale web products in an agile product development environment
  • Proven ability to direct a team and negotiate and influence stakeholders within the team and externally in the broader organization
  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching others, either cross-functionally or directly.
  • Ability to build long term relationships across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing technical professionals
  • Experience working in a fully remote team is preferred
  • Experience working with cloud native applications
  • High-level of confidence, integrity, enthusiasm and executive presence.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt in a growing organization while undergoing consistent, proactive, iterative change and process improvement
  • The desire and ability to work at a fast pace and drive concurrent technical projects is helpful


Salary Range

The base salary for this position is $140,000 - $182,000 annually. This range does not include at plan potential for commissions and/or quarterly upsides. This role is not eligible for Skillable’s corporate bonus plan. Consistent with applicable laws, compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level, relevant skills, qualifications, and experience along with requirements for the position and annual financial plans.

Skillable is a distributed first team with employees working across the U.S., and we do not consider geography when determining compensation ranges.

Please note that it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Skillable reserves the right to modify this compensation range at any time.

Working Conditions:

The job conditions for this position are in a remote home office setting, requiring a space that supports privacy and focus to attend to regular and frequent video and voice calls. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Periodic travel may be required equaling up to approximately 10% of the time.
