We seek an Underwriter who can be the key "project manager" for renewals, claims reporting, and analysis. Our Core Values and what separates us from the competition aren't just some words in the "employee Handbook". Everyday we:

DUTIES

  • Analyze health and welfare benefit plan characteristics and asses risks as to frequency and potential severity of losses and risks to clients utilizing established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies.
  • Represent and negotiate rates and plan options with insurers on behalf of clients to secure optimal, cost competitive health and welfare benefit plans.
  • Build and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives.
  • Evaluate, determine and recommend alternative coverage, pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis of available plan elements.
  • Validate renewals/proposals for accuracy.
  • Perform risk assessment on impact of specific medical conditions, interpretation of medical diagnoses and the overall impact of specific health conditions.
  • Establish and maintain quality service standards assuring timely service to Innovative team.
  • Continually review efficiency within the department to insure appropriate processes meet company requirements.
  • Work with Account Management team to develop RFP and on presentations to clients concerning technical rating matters.
  • Maintain both client and internal deadline compliance.
  • Support Innovative with assistance in special projects (new business and/or product opportunities for example).
  • Remain current on the dynamic competitive insurance environment, appropriate underwriting techniques, and legislation that govern business and underwriting protocols.
  • Conduct competitive bidding of all coverage lines and present financial and contractual findings.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of all employee benefit options including but not limited to: Medical, Dental, Life and Disability Insurance, ancillary benefit options, etc.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years underwriting experience in benefits consulting/insurance industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and welfare benefit plans and funding methods.
  • Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills with a superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have an ability to multi-task and work in a team environment.
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Life, Accident, and Health Insurance License
  • Particular extensive experience with self-funded health insurance.
  • Willingness to continually upgrade knowledge and understanding of the Insurance industry
