Duties and Responsibilities:
Case management:
Coordinates, develops, and implements comprehensive advising, academic, tutorial, and support services to ensure student success, persistence, retention, and graduation.
Coordinates, develops, and presents student success workshops on study skills, goal setting, time management, etc.
Works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to help provide an environment that encourages student success, retention, and college completion.
Provides intrusive advising, counseling, mentoring, and support services to participants.
Monitors the academic progress, persistence, and retention of program participants.
Maintains an electronic database of student files.
Resource and outreach coordination:
Serves as program advocate and liaison to the campus community.
Works cooperatively with other offices to ensure the successful delivery of support services to participants.
Coordinates, plans, and implements programs, services, and activities designed to improve the educational outcomes of the participants.
Lead Pre-Semester Success Workshops to provide nursing students the essential skills needed to become active participants in the academic process as well as increase their confidence and readiness level to be successful in their program of choice.
Provide tutoring (empowerment) sessions as a pro-active measure for nursing students to improve understanding of course content and overall academic performance
Implement a peer mentoring program in which there is an exchange of knowledge or skills from a more experienced individual (mentor) to a less experienced individual (mentee) in the same field.
Provide student, faculty and program support as needed which may include participation and assistance in classroom, lab and/or clinical instruction as needed to meet instructional needs of nursing students.
Meets with all at risk students to conduct gap analysis for the purpose of creating a success plan, monitoring student progress, and documenting coaching activities and progress.
Monitors at risk student performance daily and maintains regular communication with at risk students as well as their faculty member and refers the student to other academic or psychosocial resources as deemed appropriate.
Provides ongoing support for other nursing faculty in the use of student success tools and strategies in the classroom, clinical and laboratory setting.
Utilizes lab simulation as needed to assist faculty, and students with skill reinforcement and review
Administrative activities:
Provides outstanding customer services to all internal and external customers.
Attends professional development conferences, trainings, workshops, and meetings.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree and enrolled in Master’s program with completion of Master's within 6 months
Required Experience:
Minimum of two years of RN clinical experience; At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. An applicant for nurse instructor must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of two years of nursing practice as a registered nurse in a clinical setting prior to their appointment.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Unencumbered Louisiana RN license.
- Valid, unencumbered driver's license.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing
Preferred Experience:
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary setting, school system, with Community College teaching preferred.
- Demonstrated mastery of the subject matter in designated discipline.
- Demonstrated mastery and ability to read, speak, and write in the English language.
Passing pre-employment criminal background and drug screen are required as a condition of employment.
