What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Maker B position at Sloan?
Sloan is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems and has been in operation since 1906. We manufacture water-efficient products including flush valves, electronic faucets, soap dispensing and sink systems along with vitreous china fixtures for commercial, industrial and institutional markets worldwide.
Perform duties to lay out, construct, alter and repair a variety of tools including ordinary
combination blanking, drawing, piercing and forming dies, jigs and fixtures involving
general types of machining operations, location and profile gauges where design is available,
but requiring ordinary development work as to mechanisms and details.
Work from prints, machine manuals, machinist manuals and instructions:
1. Visualize finished job, make necessary mathematical calculations ands select
allowances for spring, shrinkage, lapping, finding, scraping and fitting,
2. Recognize and report correction, necessary to correct blue-print erros such as
improper angles, radii and materials,
3. Perform difficult and exacting machine operations requiring a wide variety of setups
and methods to maintain very close tolexaxxces, skilled bench work involving filing,
scraping, grinding, lapping, fitting, assembling avid adjusting to insure satisfactory
performance or experimental and development parts, mechanisms to produce
workable parts, units or models.
4. Make tools tryouts, diagnose trouble and males reconunendations of tools and
methods, and cortect problems,
5. Perform hardening, drawing, and tempering operations on a variety of materials,
tools, parts as required.
Use a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, a variety of precision measuring tools,
optical comparator, heat treating furnace and hand tools.
Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
