SMA Healthcare welcomes recent nurse graduates to a dynamic and nurse friendly environment to care for a variety of clients undergoing mental health crisis and/or detoxification process as the primary health concern. The Nurse Resident, who is a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and working under the supervision of their assigned Registered Nurse trainer, performs a variety of resident nursing duties. Medical and psychological stability of clients in the Emergency Services department, Crisis Stabilization, and/or Detox units is achieved using a holistic approach. They will be responsible to provide unit observation and care on assigned shifts, as well as, but not limited to assisting in the following capacities: screening and intake of clients referred for crisis stabilization or detoxification services, assessing client mental health for appropriate psychiatric disposition, medical and substance abuse assessment, medical treatment as ordered by a physician, referral of clients to community agencies when applicable, medical triage, administration of emergency and routine medication, crisis intervention, emergency procedures, and many other health care related issues. The Nurse Resident will fully explore the nursing process, while growing in autonomy with a safety net of support.
Qualifications
Graduate of Associate of Science in nursing degree program. Obtain an ATT letter to sit for licensure exam in the state of Florida with authorization to practice. Current CPR/First Aid.

- Performs client screening for Baker Act, Marchman Act, and all established internal program criteria.
- Creates an initial treatment plan in the electronic medical record.
- Performs bio-psychosocial and/or medical nursing assessment and mental status exam for clients screened, presents diagnostic impression to psychiatrist or physician for client admission.
- Works in cooperation with payor source and obtains authorizations when required.
- Provides medication passes as ordered by provider and/or client medication education specific to client age and condition.
- Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment according to the SMA Healthcare Safety/Risk Management Plan and agency approved crisis intervention techniques.
- Courteous when engaged in telephone conversation with staff and the public.
- Records results in client record and provides interventions as indicated.
