Job Summary
Leads a wide range of administrative and support activities for the Springs/Rings Departments, to facilitate the efficient operation of the departments, while also completing set up and machine operator responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to independently set up and operate multiple machines in the various Rings & Springs groups
- Opens and closes each job, retrieves all gauges, tooling, racks, and materials needed, removes and installs machine tooling, sets up machine(s), adjusts tooling, and sets parameters for each job
- Troubleshoots and corrects issues with the various machines by identifying the root cause and assigning the appropriate resource to correct the problem
- Assists supervisors and managers with teaching, training, and supporting all machine Operators and machine Setup Operators with day-to-day responsibilities
- Loads wire efficiently and safely using appropriate tools and removes empty spools
- Measures and inspects the wire quality throughout each step of the set up process
- Operates all testing equipment including; micrometers, calipers, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform heat sampling and wire rejection procedure
- Assists supervisors with all incident reports received from Quality Department
- Assists supervisors with scheduling the work load and assigns work to the team as necessary
- Works with Engineering Team to develop new parts
- Participates in cross departmental work production based on business needs
- Learns and upholds defined quality standards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and optimize work efficiency
- Strives to achieve team and individual specified production targets
- Provides complete, accurate documentation when required
- Communicates clearly with teammates and supervisors regarding all aspects of the job
- Reports problems that arise with machines, materials, jobs, or team members; and offers solutions where possible within the scope of the duties of the job
- Learns and follows Smalley requirements for employee safety, product quality, and productivity
- Adheres to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment including: appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), participation in mandatory safety training, and reports any concerns immediately
- Keeps workspace clean and organized to maximize safety and productivity by adhering to Smalley’s 6S process
- Participates in ongoing training, educational meetings, and daily communication meetings
- Responsible for reviewing all applicable departmental policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing or related environment required
- 3-5 years proven experience working as a Set Up Operator or demonstrates the necessary skills to advance
- Mechanical experience including: operation of high-speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment required
- Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing) required
- Experience troubleshooting production equipment and ability to identify machine problems required
- Experience measuring parts with precision instruments including: micrometers, digital calipers, etc.
- Pass required exam of basic math and English
