We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, which have access to three Class I rail lines, allowing us to deliver products substantially anywhere in the United States and Canada.
We are currently looking for a Mine and Maintenance Supervisorto join our team
Position Summary
This position is responsible for leading the mine and heavy equipment, and the maintenance team in operating in a safe, cost-effective and environmentally controlled manner and complete the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of production and facility equipment. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure all work is completed in accordance with all safety standards while following the predictive and preventative maintenance systems and processes established by the company while contributing to achieve the site’s business goals and objectives. The Mine and Maintenance Supervisor is the first point of contact for questions, issues, or concerns among the crew.
The position will work under the supervision of the Mine and Maintenance Manager; but will require taking direction from other Northern White Sand and Smart Sand managers.
This position is based primarily at our Utica, IL facility.
Mine Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads the crew by priority of jobs.
- Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such backhoe, dump truck, snowplow, road grater, front-end loader, hydraulic excavators, and skid steers.
- May build, level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other equipment.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing employees on the use of all equipment and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Works cooperatively to comply with facility-wide environmental and quality management systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintenance Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate constant commitment to safety, professional behavior, and environmental considerations.
- Maintain a respectful environment and involve team members on strategy discussions.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to instruct and perform required maintenance and service.
- Perform as well as coordinate and prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure production goals are met.
- Collect and record necessary information from operators and other employees on the status and diagnosis of machines and equipment throughout your shift.
- Collect any relevant information needed for spare parts ordering and communicate that information to the Mine and Maintenance Manager.
- Organize a pass-on meeting with the Utica Leadership and any other necessary parties to ensure all relevant and necessary information is communicated at the beginning and end of shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Effectively trains, coaches, disciplines, and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships.
- Lead daily line-out and safety meetings.
- Accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow.
- Participates in performance reviews with plant management. Perform accident/incident investigations for any occurrences which may take place during your shift and ensure any follow up actions to mitigate safety concerns are taken.
- Provide training and guidance while working alongside other maintenance employees in the repair of stationary plant and mobile equipment.
- Ensure the inventory management system guidelines are followed by all maintenance employees whenever a part is removed from inventory.
- Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as an Equipment Operator preferred.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Valid driver license and clean Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR).
- MSHA training and experience required.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and skill to operate basic heavy equipment pieces and be able to read, use simple math and use basic hand-held measuring tools.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow Mine Plan.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs required.
- Excellent leadership and people skills.
- Must be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be adaptable and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have high safety standards for self and others.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
- Must be willing to work any assigned shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
