What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Estimator position at SMEDE-SON STEEL & SUPPLY CO INC?
Manages commercial projects, consisting of large homes and small commercial retail building/warehouses. Able to work in the field getting necessary measurements and dimensions. Works with fabricators to ensure that material are produced in a timely manner. Ensures that customers are billed in an accurate and timely manner
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Primary contact with commercial sales customers.
2. Interact with customers in a professional manner.
3. Able to read and take off architecture blue prints.
4. Verify detailers drawing.
5. Perform shop sketches.
6. Perform field measurements and layout work.
7. Understanding of Word and Excel.
8. Understanding of American Institute of Steel Construction Book.
9. Enter invoices and orders in proprietary sales systems.
10. Build quotes for customers.
11. Develops cut list of materials for fabricators.
12. Double check cut lists for accuracy.
13. Represents Smede-Son in a positive light.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
College degree Structural Engineering helpful but not necessary, appropriate work experience is desired, three to five years related experience and/or training in structural steel.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret blue prints and specification book instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to calculate both geometric and trigonometry problems. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Computer Skills:
Ability to enter and correct customer orders in the proprietary sales management system. Able to access and extract information from customers software systems. Ability to navigate the internet extracting required information.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
