What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus School Librarian position at Smith College Campus School?
PRIMARY FUNCTION(S): Organize and maintain the library at Campus School and collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure that the library remains an integral component of the learning/instructional program.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Design a library curriculum for kindergarten through 6th grade. Prepare for and instruct children in individual classes held weekly. Maintain timely communication with teachers and families about the library. Track individual student progress, provide personal comments on 1st 6th grade progress reports.
Include a narrative of the program curriculum in progress report.Collaborate with College faculty and college students to support their classes and studies as it relates to childrens literature.Collaborate with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, DEI/AR resources, learning outcomes, and information resources. Collaborate with teachers in the development of learning experiences that empowers students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, ethical users of information, and pursue personal and aesthetic growth. Teach library skills and procedures. Create a library environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff.
Share with the school community existing and emerging technologies that support teaching and learning, supplement school resources, connect the school with the global learning community. Provide leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information. Oversee the cataloging and filing of print and non-print materials. Maintain the circulation desk, overdue records, reserve books and upkeep of the library.
Supervise, hire, and train the work study assistants. Assist in organization of school wide events related to reading appreciation (including running the Book Fair, applying for grants, Poetry Month, etc.)
