What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Assistant position at Smith Gardens, Inc.?
Smith Gardens Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Assistant to join our Home Office in Bellingham, WA. The position is responsible to assist with production supply purchases and will work closely with vendors for best booking options. Work closely with the Purchasing team to effectively communicate potential issues and handle various responsibilities and support for the Purchasing department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor stock levels and purchasing needs.
- Create and manage Purchase Orders, track orders and ensure timely delivery.
- Follow up with vendors as needed to confirm orders/change orders.
- Maintain updated records of invoices and pricing.
- Expand purchasing and planning processes to enable growth while improving efficiency and accuracy.
- Coordinate and track intercompany transfers of materials.
- Work with appropriate site department as needed to monitor product shipping, quality and credit claims.
- Maintain and update BOM (Bill of Materials) as needed to stay current.
- Update internal databases with vendor items and details.

- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with customers, vendors, and all levels of staff.
- Solid understanding of supply chain processes.
- Organized, accurate, analytical, and detail oriented.
- Self-motivated and flexible.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel.
- Database use and ERP experience preferred.
- 2 years Purchasing or Horticultural office experience desired.
- Minimum AA degree preferred.
