Your Opportunity
As a Marketing Team member, you would assist in leveraging data metrics to develop methods to strategically maximize the profitability of a specific brand category in our business. In representing Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathans Famous, or any of our brands, you will collaborate cross-functionally across the company from our sales team to our business management operations to deliver the best product to our customers and consumers.
The Senior Director, Marketing leads all marketing activities across various Smithfield brands. The Senior Director provides marketing and business expertise as well as strategic, solutions-oriented counsel to brand stakeholders and cross-functional partners - internally, regional and key business partners. In addition to all marketing duties, this position is an owner of the financial management of the brand(s).
Core Responsibilities
This position must provide project management, strategic planning, and implementation support for key initiatives. This includes ensuring the timely and accurate completion of multiple projects/strategic initiatives occurring simultaneously. Strengths in product conceptualization, creative problem solving and personnel talents and technology to implement solutions.
Brand Management
- Sets annual marketing objectives, strategies, tactics and measures.
- Analyzes consumer and market trends to address business opportunities and issues.
- Develops category strategy and performs ongoing business analysis to drive the performance of the brand.
- Leads a wide variety of functional areas to develop and manage marketing objectives, strategies, and tactics.
- Manages marketing mix elements and other business-building initiatives.
- Manages brand budget and is responsible for cost implications of all marketing projects.
- Ensures Legal approval of all documents, contracts, and materials that touch external stakeholders.
- Leads market and competitive analyses, leveraging syndicated and proprietary data.
- Participates in sales presentations and customer meetings.
Advertising and Promotion Management
- Manages agency relationships and leads the preparation for internal and external brand presentations.
- Develops and implements an integrated brand image and message throughout all advertising, packaging, and promotional efforts.
- Evaluates creative advertising and promotions, ensuring the most motivating communication reaches target consumers.
- Develops effective and efficient media plans with the media agency to reach target consumers.
Innovation Management
- Leads the product commercialization process, identifying consumer insight, creating the product proposition, and assessing the market potential for each new idea.
- Works within a cross-functional team, leading marketing efforts.
- Partners with other functional areas to quickly bring viable new products to market.
- Identifies opportunities for growth and cost improvement and is responsible for line extensions.

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree (B.A.) from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in Marketing or related field and 12 years marketing experience; required.
- Minimum 8 years experience in team development/management; required.
- MBA in Marketing or related field, preferred.
- Senior level marketing experience with Consumer Packaged Goods in meat/food related categories, preferred.
- Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to present and discuss strategies in a manner that establishes rapport, persuades others, and establishes understanding for various audiences.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
- Ability to prioritize projects and produce high quality and quantity output that adds value to the company.
- Self-motivated with strong sense of accountability, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively to attain results that meet the business needs
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Proficient with syndicated data.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing, providing direction and professional development for Marketing team.
- Carries out managerial and supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
