DIrector of Nursing, DON, DNS Position Requirements:

§ Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut
§ Minimum of 3 years of additional education or experience in geriatric nursing or rehabilitation. Requires at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity.
§ Knowledge of nursing theory and practice including the administration of medications.
§ Ability to work as scheduled based on position requirements

The role of the Director of Nursing, DON, DNS is a strategic lead position which ensures the nursing department is fully staffed, beds occupied and as well as complying with all skilled nursing facility (SNF) regulations and Resident Bill of Rights.


DIrector of Nursing, DON, DNS Job Responsibilities

§ Directs clinical team in support of the facility mission, nursing policies and procedures.
§ Directs resident care providing leadership to all direct care personnel.
§ Responsible for DPH successful inspections, Accident and Injury administration, Plan of Corrections, and overall nursing department results.
§ Direct, manage and develop Unit Coordinators, MDS team, Short Term Rehab team etc. to improve and maintain team function, morale.
§ Assumes appropriate responsibility in Administrator’s absence.
§ Ensures nursing department’s licensure and accreditations are maintained.
§ Maintains appropriate staff levels required by DPH, including management of hiring, evaluations, etc.
§ Acts as liaison between Administrator and other business entities and resource for resident care.
§ Manage pharmacy services to ensure timely and safe delivery, destruction, administration and of medications.
§ Ensure SNF complies with all state, local and federal regulations, HIPPA, OSHA , Fire code and Resident Bill of Rights.
