Core Network Engineer
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Snowcreek Consulting is seeking a core network engineer to ensure the stability, integrity, and
availability of the DISA Joint Service Provider’s networking infrastructure and associated
services. The position is involved with full lifecycle maintenance of network infrastructure,
including incident response, capacity planning, testing, monitoring, performance tuning,
enhancements, and integration of new services. The engineer must have the understanding and
ability to implement and troubleshoot Cisco and Juniper products and services in a production
environment using industry best practices. This position may require occasional
overnight/weekend work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A successful candidate will be responsible for the health and maintenance of a large, complex
networking infrastructure. This includes providing network administration and operational
support to more than 8000 networked devices. The engineer will provide comprehensive
network administration, security enhancements and remediation, and troubleshooting of network
devices such as routers, switches, load balancers, WIFI, and VoIP. This position requires an
understanding of best practices pertaining to network security and may require the
development, deployment, and integration of network security services. Successful candidates
should be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Additional responsibilities for the position are:
• Provide problem and incident resolution, including dealing with software and hardware
vendor technical support
• Deploy and maintain network hardware, peripherals, services, and settings in
accordance with industry standards and project/operational requirements
• Perform daily system monitoring; verify the integrity and availability of networking
hardware, services, systems, and key processes; review system and application logs
• Document and conduct changes during authorized service interruption (ASI) windows
• Provide on-call troubleshooting and issue resolution as required
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
• Collaborate with the cybersecurity teams to identify and remediate application and
operating system vulnerabilities
• Act as a liaison with other groups to provide information-sharing pertaining to the needs
of the diverse set of computer users supported by the client as a whole.
• Develop scripts and other automation solutions to aid in the completion of migration and
integration tasks.
• Review problems to understand the root causes of issues and ensure proper fixes are
implemented
• Provide phone support to users during times of peak demand as needed.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or commensurate work experience in lieu of degree
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• DoD 8570 IAT II Certification
• One of the following Networking Certifications ‐ Brocade, Cisco
(CCNA/CCNP), Juniper (JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP), Aruba
• Candidate must be willing to obtain an Aruba Certification within 90 days from
start of employment
• 5 years of related experience
• Must have hands‐on experience/knowledge with Aruba networking systems
• Extensive experience troubleshooting, managing and monitoring the health of Cisco and
Juniper routers and switches
• Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting security stacks, network systems,
switching, and routing protocol standards such as: TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN,
and 802.1x.
• Experience managing and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large multi-
site environment
• Experience managing Cisco Prime/Junos Space
• Experience with network security, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, and vulnerability
remediation
• Experience using network management and analysis tools such as SNMP probes,
network taps, and traffic analyzers
• Experience documenting network topology using Visio
• Experience creating and documenting processes and creating work instructions
• Experience working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers
• Excellent troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with supporting teleworkers and remote access technologies
• Experience creating scripts to automate routine administration tasks
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong customer service skills
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Aruba Certification (ACSA and/or ACSP, depending on role)
• Experience with NetScout, IBM NetCool and/or Solarwinds NMS products
• Experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting load balancers from a L2/L3
perspective
• Experience utilizing Remedy ITSM
• Experience administering and troubleshooting server operating systems such as Linux,
Windows, or UNIX
