- ***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. What you will be doing:
This position will be assigned to open population mental health treatment team at Goose Creek Correctional Center in Wasilla. Clinicians assigned to provide assessments, crisis intervention; release planning; therapeutic groups; supportive counseling; and coordination with security, medical and mental health staff. This position will work under the supervision of a Mental Health Clinician 3.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located at Goose Creek Correctional Center, a secure facility for incarcerated male offenders. This position will work closely with teams of correctional officers, mental health clinicians, medical staff, and probation officers.
Who we are looking for:
As a Mental Health Clinician 1/2 incumbents under the direct supervision of a Mental Health Clinician III will:- Screen & triage inmates presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses including severe and persistent mental illness, behavior problems, organic disorders, alcohol/drug abuse, developmental disabilities and personality disorders;
- Conduct mental status exams and diagnostic assessments for inmates;
- Provide individual counseling and treatment planning for inmates on the mental health caseload;
- Provide suicide assessments and develop safety plans for inmates as needed;
- Make referrals to and assist the psychiatric provider with clinics;
- Develop detailed release plans for inmates with severe and persisting mental illness;
- Develop and facilitate core curriculum that will ensure group programming aimed at the adjustment and rehabilitation of inmates.
- Stong clinical and crisis intervention skills;
- Experience working with chronically mentally ill adults;
- Ability to motivate and work well with difficult, treatment resistant clients;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to work closely with medical and security staffs.
- Minimum Qualifications
Mental Health Clinician 1:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.Mental Health Clinician 2:
Master’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in
- Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
- Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

- Psychology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental ailments, and career guidance.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework.

Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s eligibility. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher-level job class after completing the training plan and meeting the minimum qualifications.
