Middle Grades Math Teacher - 8th Grade Algebra I

JOB DESCRIPTION: Teacher

CONTRACT TERMS: 190-Day Calendar

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE: Social Circle City School District Certified Salary Schedule

Fair Labor Standards Act: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A valid Georgia Educator Certificate in assigned teaching field as required by the Professional Standards Commission in Math 6-12

• Demonstrates an understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices

• Ability to apply instructional strategies on differentiation
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, staff, students, and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

• • Use appropriate, research-based methodology for instruction
  • Provide content development, establish high expectations for student performance and
  • assist all students in mastering academic standards
  • Promote student engagement in learning and provide appropriate assessments of student learning progress
  • Use student progress data to develop teaching strategies
  • Respond to adequate and inadequate student performance
  • Support students with encouragement
  • Utilize time efficiently
  • Maintain effective physical setting for instruction
  • Compile, maintain and submit all required reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior in the classroom
  • Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student records, parents and colleagues
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia, as established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
  • Integrate the use of technology in the classroom
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner

  • Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting (50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System. (TKES)
