Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our dynamic team. Initially beginning at part-time (50%), the role may increase to full-time within six to twelve months. This position is ideal for an early-career scientist passionate about infectious diseases, with an emphasis on viral agents. The successful candidate will play a critical role in our laboratory, which is located at 3185 Rampart Road in Fort Collins, Colorado. Responsibilities will include propagation, inactivation, and analysis of infectious agents, as well as overall operational activities of the laboratory. Employee must demonstrate ability to function in a collaborative team environment across multiple development programs, with a focus on delivery of results within the prescribed timelines and project budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on infectious diseases with a focus on viral agents
- Perform experiments in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) laboratory environment
- Develop and implement new lab techniques for studying infectious agents
- Create/implement/execute written standard operating procedures for laboratory-based studies
- Collect, analyze, and interpret scientific data
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records
- Management of laboratory inventory including materials/supplies and samples
- Collaborate with other scientists and team members on various research projects
- Stay updated with the latest scientific literature and advancements in the field
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related field
- Experience working in a BSL2 laboratory
- Hands-on experience with virology and infectious disease research
- Experience with cell culture and viral propagation/testing methods
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, motivation, and time management
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Understand and perform a variety of traditional laboratory assays as well novel methods using complex quantitative and qualitative analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- MS, PhD, or other advanced degree in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related field
- Fluency in molecular techniques such as PCR, qPCR, and sequencing
- Familiarity with vaccine biomanufacturing practices
- Understanding of immunological assays and techniques
- Animal model experience
