Educational Sign Language Interpreter
Soliant is working together with a local school district in the Crystal Lake, Illinois area to hirea dedicated and skilled Educational Sign Language Interpreterfor the 2023/2024 school year.
As an Educational Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their educational environment. This is a full-time position, 35 - 37.5hours per week when school is in session.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation services for a student in the elementary setting.
- Facilitate effective communication between the student and teachers, staff, and peers.
- Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborate with the educational team to develop appropriate accommodations and strategies for the student.
- Assist the student in accessing the curriculum, ensuring that all educational materials and information are accurately conveyed in sign language.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for the student, promoting their academic and social growth.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and extensive knowledge of sign vocabulary and grammar.
- EIPA of 3.0 and Illinois Board of Education approval.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and effectively convey information to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of special education practices and procedures, including familiarity with IEP processes and accommodations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong commitment to attendance and fulfilling work hours.

Competitive and negotiablehourly rate will be determined based on experience of applicant, as well as school budget. Applicantwill not be paid when school is closed for breaks, holidays, etc.
W2 contracted position for the 2023/2024 school year.Contract renewals for the following school-year are available for a good fit.
