Job Opportunity : Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
Location : St. Paul, Nebraska
Responsibilities :
- Provide accurate and effective interpretation services in various educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and school staff.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to match the communication needs and preferences of individual students.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other service providers to support students educational goals.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and advancements in sign language interpretation.
Qualifications :
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of Deaf culture.
- Certification from a recognized certifying body such as the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) is preferred.
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
