Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to set the standard for the shift, assign people to specific lines and act as the technical lead for the shift. This position needs to be the strongest leader and process troubleshooter for the shift. This position typically operates one machine while acting as a shift production supervisor (working supervisor). The main function is to keep all operators safe and ensure the operations have the necessary materials to continue production. This position also needs to maintain the proper supplies and materials for the shift. This position needs to be capable of making quick, well-thought-out decisions as needed to keep the shift running efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety for all operators for the shift
- Conduct all safety training and investigations for safety incidents
- Maintain the 5S Program and ensure compliance with all standards
- Make recommendations on improvement to the 5S program to provide continuous improvement
- Coordinate production, distribution, warehousing, and quality control in accordance with schedules, policies, principles, and procedures
- Operate all types of machines at this location and produce the highest level of quality as defined within the quality parameters
- Post all production within the ERP system with accuracy and completeness. Verify all data entered is correct for the shift
- Conduct basic quality checks; maintain quality testing knowledge
- Manage raw material changes on any machine
- Troubleshoot and adjust any machine to correct most production issues with minimal scrap
- Make product change on any machine
- Make QC judgments on any machine based on the established criteria
- Assist and train new operators
- Capable of conducting all operation inspections
- Manage timesheets & attendance for full-time and temp employees
- Develop personnel schedule to ensure the department is running per the production schedule
- Optimize the production schedule to ensure operations meet all customer commitments while minimizing scrap and downtime
- Work with maintenance on PM program as well as work orders to optimize yield, rate, and uptime
- Perform routine performance reviews with the team
- Identify unsafe working conditions
- Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years as production leader
- OSHA basic training
- Knowledge of plastics and/or nonwoven textile production
- Basic problem-solving ability required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 Years of production work experience, plus 3-5 years’ experience as a production leader or supervisor
- Certified Forklift driver
- Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
- Knowledgeable in the operation and troubleshooting of multiple production lines
- Computer skill / Ability to enter data into ERP/ MRP
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, some simple multiplication, and division) required working with product weights, lengths, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules, instructions, and procedures
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to climb to other levels and conduct work on that level
- Ability to work in a plant environment with exposure to heat conditions
- Works 12-hour shifts on a rotating shift basis
- Use physical effort to move products and assist with maintenance
