Engineering Technician II
The Engineering Technician performs technical support in such areas as research, design, development, testing with work pertaining to electronic, electrical, or mechanical components or equipment. Performs standardized assignments involving a sequence of related operations following standard work methods receiving explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments.
Job Responsibilities
Learn and apply established methods, detailed procedures, and techniques related to Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) testing
Provide assistance in E3 testing by performing test setup and teardown, operating test equipment, and recording test data.
Uses established methods to analyze and prepare test data for review by senior technical personnel.
Operate and monitor performance of equipment so as to identify deviations or errors in test data due to equipment malfunctions. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
Assis senior technicians/engineering personnel engaged in conducting test and evaluation of electronic systems for E3 compliance.
Perform non-standardized assignments under guidance and oversight of senior technical personnel.
Perform periodic maintenance on laboratory equipment and systems.
Perform equipment/system installation, testing, fabrication, and other tasks as needed.
Requisition parts and materials to support laboratory maintenance and operations
Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.
Physical Environment & Demands
Works typically indoors, usually in laboratories, and often have regular working hours but may be asked for exceptions. In those cases, they also may work outdoors, sometimes in remote locations.
Environmental engineering technicians may work in environmental cleanup scenarios.
Can be exposed to hazards from equipment, chemicals, or toxic materials. For this reason, they must follow proper safety procedures, such as wearing hazmat suits and sometimes respirators, even in warm weather.
When working in wet areas, environmental engineering technicians wear heavy rubber boots to keep their legs and feet dry.
Skills
Ability to inspect construction projects and enforce compliance with plans, specifications, and laws.
Can meet and consult with engineers, contractors, and others on difficult construction matters, as applicable.
Can make field engineering estimates, collect samples, measure or test quantities and materials, and make complex calculations.
Maintains understanding to prepare and compile complex written technical reports.
Ability to use computer equipment, including reference materials and operating manuals, to manipulate data bases, update files and produce reports or designs is required of some positions.
Education
High School or equivalent and Vocational/technical training beyond high school or equivalent experience.
Clearance
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
Experience
Five years of job-related experience or equivalent required. Good communications and analytical skills.
Experience providing maintenance support in mechanical, electrical, fluids and other disciplines. DOD Electronics training desirable.
