The primary purpose of the Maintenance Technician is to maintain, recondition, repair, troubleshoot, adjust, construct, and upgrade various types of mechanical equipment throughout all areas of the plant as assigned using the skills, tools, equipment and materials made available to him. Maintenance Technician will report to the Maintenance Superintendent, but will be given his day to day work assignments by the Maintenance Coordinator. The Maintenance Technician will be working with other maintenance technicians, production technicians, engineers, production coordinators, production specialists, outside contractors, and many times independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a high standard of safety and safe work practices, including keen working knowledge of process safety, personal safety and plant life critical procedures.
- Knowledge of general and specific maintenance disciplines usually gained through a technical associate degree in mechanical disciplines.
- Utilize the CMMS to set job tasks based upon direction from the Maintenance Coordinator, including closing work orders on a routine basis.
- Work with Production Technician, to trouble shoot maintenance issues with equipment.
- Assure that proper turn back of equipment is conducted upon completion of a maintenance task, including housekeeping, equipment set up and documentation processes.
- Assure tools and equipment used is properly maintained, cleaned, serviced, stored and inspected.
- Maintain plant equipment to maximize plant’s performance.
- Maintain the plant’s fire protection systems, process systems, cooling and potable water systems, APSA nitrogen generating system, process equipment, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer distribution systems and WWTU systems.
- Maintain the plant’s steam boilers systems.
- On call as scheduled and in the event of a major equipment issue.
- Perform maintenance work in a safe, efficient and effective manner to return equipment to service.
- Perform rigging of equipment in and out of place using a boom truck, fork lift, plant crane.
- Maintain plant rotating equipment including rebuilding, alignment, preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance duties.
Skills:
- High school graduate or equivalent education.
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the mechanical field, or Graduation from a Mechanical Trade/Technical School.
- Trouble shooting skills including failure investigation.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and reduction processes.
- Knowledge in the use of all types of maintenance tools, machinery and other equipment for used to maintain the facility.
- Use oxyacetylene torches as they apply to burning, cutting, and welding of carbon and stainless steel materials.
- Use electrical arc welding equipment for the welding of steel materials, using both inert gas arc welding (TIG) and stick welding equipment.
- Select the proper type and size of welding rod to be used.
- Familiar with the common types of electrical devices that operate plant equipment. This includes: motors, starters, circuit breakers, push button switches, grounding, extension cords, and lighting.
- Familiar with agitators, back flow preventers, bearings, blowers, air compressors, cooling towers, drives, fans, filters, fire protection sprinkler systems, fittings flanges, forklift trucks, gaskets, general carpentry, hoist, lubrication, maintenance shop equipment, man lifts, mechanical seals, piping, plant vehicles, plumbing, pressure vessels, pumps, regulators, safety relief devices, scales, steam traps, tanks, valves, scrubbers, and other mechanical equipment as needed.
- Utilize portable and hand tools safely including proper tool maintenance.
- Skilled in basic equipment rigging, hoist usage, crane operations, trenching, tractor and fork lift operations.
