Job Overview and Responsibilities
Solvay Fluorides LLC manufactures Anhydrous and Aqueous Hydrogen Fluoride which are critical raw materials to key industries including petroleum alkylation, stainless steel pickling, fluorocarbons, and fluoropolymers. We have acquired a major market share of these highly hazardous chemicals in the US and Canada by building on the strength of our product stewardship and customer technical support. This position provides the product stewardship and technical leadership required to support our sales force, supply chain, and customers. Primary responsibilities:
- Serve as the internal expert in the handling, use and transportation of Hydrogen Fluoride (HF)
- Represent the company in industry groups and gain acceptance as an industry expert.
- Develop and maintain Hydrogen Fluoride product handling procedures and training materials. Conduct training and certify truck drivers responsible for the transport and delivery of HF products.
- Develop and manage product stewardship programs for key stakeholders including emergency responders, medical personnel and end users of Solvay HF products.
- Conduct customer site reviews to ensure capability to safely store and handle Solvay HF products.
- Provide technical support for sales and marketing of Solvay HF products.
- Serve as key contact for customer questions regarding handling, storage, materials of construction, personal protective equipment, and first aid for HF products.
- Serve as company representative for trade associations, panels and/or sub-groups concerned with product stewardship such as American Chemistry Council (ACC) Hydrogen Fluoride Panel and Hydrogen Fluoride Industry Practices Institute (HFIPI).
- Participate in emergency drills at customer sites.
- Develop and maintain the emergency response plan for the Alorton site. Coordinate the drills and other activities required as part of the emergency response and crisis management plans.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred. Engineering discipline in Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum or Chemistry related technical field.
- Equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement for highly relevantly experienced individuals.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in hazardous chemicals or in the chemical industry required
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the use and handling hazardous chemicals.
- Experience with hydrogen fluoride (HF) is plus.
- Hazardous chemicals emergency response experience is plus.
- Willing to respond in the event of an emergency situation.
- Willing to be trained in all aspects of handling, physical properties and emergency response of hydrogen fluoride (HF).
- Experience with planning and delivering effective technical presentations to large
- groups.
- Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoinl.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50%.
