Role Overview

Job Overview

This position will be for the Research & Innovation (R&I) team in Anaheim, which is a part of the global Solvay Composite Product Development (CPD) group. This R&I team develops high-performance, pre-impregnated composites as well as resin infusion materials for high-temperature applications.

Responsibilities

  • Execute research and innovation activities to develop and qualify new materials.
  • Help the Technology Services and Operations teams to validate new raw materials and process changes.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of troubleshooting material behavior.
  • Support material testing and evaluation as required.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook; summarize results/data and provide feedback to supervisor in oral and written format. May prepare graphs and charts.
  • Modify documented procedures and methods as appropriate for project work.
  • Manage and track data/information from outside sources.
  • Perform standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations.
  • Conduct a variety of standardized tests under weekly supervision.
  • Set up and operate standard lab equipment of moderate complexity.
  • Responsible for the application and promotion of Safety within the laboratories in accordance with Solvay and Government regulations.
  • Work collaboratively at all times to support all functions, customers and suppliers.
  • Perform 'Clean As You Go' housekeeping practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Champion safety actions of others and report unsafe behavior.
  • Propose new methods and procedures to improve safety in the workplace.
  • Intervene and take appropriate actions on any non-conformance, possible nonconformance or concerns affecting (1) compliance with any known legal, regulatory or company requirements; (2) Safety, Health, Environment & Security (HSE&S) policies, procedures, or other management system requirements; and (3) expectations or needs of other interested parties and communicate it through the standard company protocols.
  • Ensure that the HSE&S and Responsible Care Management System requirements are integrated into the organization's business structure and processes; and that they achieve the intended outcomes.
  • Promote an observable culture of process safety, product safety/stewardship

and customer service within their organizational control.

  • When requested, participate in the development, communication, and implementation of HSE&S and Responsible Care programs.
  • Communicate and follow up as required on any HSE&S concerns, incidents, near misses or opportunities for improvement using the appropriate company process.
  • When requested, lead, participate and/or provide resources for Employee Safety Committee (ASC), Safety Meetings, Incident/Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations, Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Startup Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and other related HSE&S, process safety, and customer service activities.

Education and Experience Required

  • An Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate/Diploma in relevant field
  • Experience in polymer and composite processing is a plus

Basic laboratory practices.
