Role Overview

We are looking for:

This is a full-time position of a junior level chemist to support the strategic Coatings business plan of Solvay NovaCare at the R&I Center in Bristol, PA. Incumbent will perform lab work primarily through emulsion polymerization in support of design of organic waterborne polymers using existing and new NovaCare products for coating, adhesive and other related applications as part of a project team.

Solvay’s Coatings group is devoted to developing innovative technological solutions in the area of surfactants, specialty monomers and additives for waterborne polymer dispersions and coatings formulations. The utility of these materials allows for them to be applied in a wide range of end use markets such as coatings, adhesives, inks, and construction materials. A major focus in this area is directed towards supporting the development of more environmentally friendly materials with improved sustainability.

We count on you for:

  • Developing new products and applications as part of the project team.
  • Collaboration with global and regional R&I teams to facilitate innovation transfers.
  • Supporting customers through product qualification, quality claims, etc.
  • Preparing technical reports for development work for management review.
  • Supporting and working closely with business, marketing and commercial team.

You will bring:

  • B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Higher degrees will be considered as well.
  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on lab work experience in a synthesis lab is required.
  • Experience in emulsion polymerization is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with coating formulation, application and performance testing is a major plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) is crucial.
  • Safe lab practices and record keeping experience are essential.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, with cross functional support groups as well as customers is also essential (Matrix Organization).

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $73,000 to $91,000 per. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to tackle technical problems and take ownership for communication with teams and management
  • Motivated, self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects/tasks at any given time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Understanding of structure-property relationship of polymeric materials
  • Familiarity with statistical tools
