Camp Sunburst and Camp Timber are seeking seasonal Summer Camp Counselors to provide energetic camp spirit and leadership throughout a fun summer experience! This role is responsible for executing our exciting camp curriculum, actively engaging and interacting with children of various backgrounds and abilities, responding to safety and behavioral needs, and more.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Camp Counselors' primary responsibility is to execute a safe and fun summer experience for the children within their assigned group. Working under the direction of the Camp Leadership Team, in this role, it is imperative to be able to make camp the best experience a child could ever dream of and will look back and remember for years to come. Camp Counselors are role models for leadership, demonstrating our core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility, and being fun, exciting individuals with good spirit. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Plans, prepares and implements daily activities for groups of 16-30 children
- Creates innovative games and activities to keep children engaged
- Works to teach a variety of activities, aiding in the supervision of all activities, including field trips, leading games and any other small or large group activities
- Establishes relationships with children and their parents
- Engages each camper by name and communicate with them to ensure quality, fun, and a safe experience
- Delegates and coordinates activities as leader of a team of senior and junior counselors
- Coaches and guides counselors and children during all activities throughout the day
- Effectively communicates groups needs with camp leadership
- Effectively communicates daily happenings and incidents to parents of campers
- Maintains group backpack including group binder, camper information sheets, necessary medications when off site, and first aid kit
- Handles all behavior, medical, and other incidents within their group, requesting assistance from camp leadership when necessary
- Responsible for scheduling group counselor to swim with group daily
- Embraces camp traditions and encourages peers and campers to do so
- Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required
- Adheres and incorporates the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and educates members about the YMCA mission and goals
*This role is a seasonal full time (40hrs per week) role. The ability to be flexible based on camp needs is required.*
Pre-Camp Trainings: TBD - held throughout June
Camp Assignment: June 19th - September 1st (must be able to work at minimum 8 out of 10 weeks)
Typical Weekly Schedules can be: Monday-Friday 7:15am-3:15pm / 8:45am-4:45pm / 10:00am-6:30pm
