Job Posting for Commissioning Technician at Somic Packaging, Inc.
The Commissioning Technician provides safe, proper, and efficient commissioning of Somic machinery at Somic facility, ensuring overall customer satisfaction. Ensures cooperation and information flow between departments such as Sales and Engineering.
Job Duties
Commissioning of machines at Somic Packaging Inc. location (in-house)
Re-assembly of the machine after shipment
Adjusting the machine according to customer specifications
testing all component parts of the machine and running of test production runs
Setting and fine tuning of the parameters regarding customer arrangements and blank specifications
Use of various measuring equipment
Develop solutions together with the special departments in case of complications
Executing reworks according to adjusted CAT’s and blueprints of special departments
Execute troubleshooting and diagnostics on machines
Understanding mechanical stroke, timing and positioning -> how changing one impacts a mechanical system
Following a quality checkout driven by a commissioning guideline
Perform factory acceptance test together with the customer
Prepare the machine for shipment together with the shipping and receiving department
Perform PLC and HMI programming logic adjustments together with Engineering
Fulfill improvements for a better machine process
Supporting PLC adjustments that are causing issues on technical requirements
Operating equipment in change workshop (lathe, mills, hand tools,…) for prototyping and adjustments of existing parts
Serve as contact for Project Manager during commissioning
Competent and consistent communication with all affected departments
Weekly status update meetings
Direct communication if there are difficulties at the machine
Complete documentation of the machines while the commissioning process
Collating data for the documentation department
Checking off project related checklists and making sure all the tasks are fulfilled
Documentation of completed mechanical or electrical adjustments
Supporting Field Service Technician via phone on machine specific topics
General questions on inhouse commissioned machines
Technical details about several machine areas and parameters
Complete equipment performance analysis and recommendations for improvements
Field travel limited up to 20% maximum
Ensures customer satisfaction of all services provided
Safe working habits in all facets of the job
Professional representative of Somic with current and potential customers
Requirements
Completed Technical Degree from 2- or 4-year program in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation Technology, Robotics, Electronics or comparable experience
Experience in the installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of machines and systems
Knowledge of electrical engineering, control technology, pneumatics, and mechanics
Functional knowledge of PLCs with ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor issues
Rockwell required

Professional appearance and strong communication skills
Able to work under pressure and be flexible
Must be fluent in English
Must have a valid class D driver’s license and US Passport required
