What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanical Engineer position at Sonalysts, Inc.?

Sonalysts, Inc. is seeking an experienced professional with current expertise in electro-mechanical engineering, to lead efforts in the design and testing of a complex system of test equipment. We are looking for someone who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and is comfortable splitting time between several functional areas associated with design review, test coordination, problem report resolution, and fluid control systems.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and subject matter experts to conduct research, design, test and evaluation of electronics / electromagnetic systems with a focus on Automated Test Equipment (ATE) controls and Signal Processing components.  This includes all phases of system requirements analysis, design, development, integration, validation and verification of system capabilities and components.  General responsibilities of the team include:

  • Participate in innovative research and Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) of modern system, software, hardware, and information assurance requirements
  • Rapidly prototype and test system designs
  • Manage the testing program for complex test equipment, including the operational resolution of reported system deficiencies
  • Perform obsolescence mitigation and re-design
  • Design system components and create engineering drawing packages and Interface Control Documents (ICD’s)

Note that the first 6-8 months of this position will be performed on-site in Middletown, RI.  Once that period is over, this position may perform in either our Newport, RI office or our Waterford, CT office dependent on follow-on tasking.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field
  • 10 years of experience in design, development, and/or testing of electro-mechanical systems
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible for a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET security clearance*

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering
  • Experience with 3D design software, such as SolidWorks, for MCAD and/or ECAD design efforts
  • Experience with the design and/or operations of fluid control systems
  • Experience in the development and/or operations of complex ATE
  • Experience in design and/or testing of US Navy torpedo systems
  • Experience in Electro-Optics (EO), Infrared (IR), and/or mmWave radar systems
  • Experience in maintaining and designing a 5S work environment
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing and change management
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment and/or Department of Defense (DoD) engineering processes
  • Possessing an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance*

*Obtaining a U.S. Government security clearance involves a comprehensive background check.  Candidates are eligible for a clearance if they have demonstrated sound financial management (including good credit) over time, are free of criminal records, have limited foreign contacts or ties, and other factors indicative of a position of trust to protect information sensitive to the U.S. Government.
