Position Summary
Vallen's Lead Maintenance and Repair Technician - Life Safety Service will be responsible for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Life Safety Systems such as Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, and Fixed Suppression systems. Responsibilities will include inspecting, installing, servicing, testing, and maintaining all of the systems for one of Vallen’s customer’s facilities and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis. Additional responsibilities will be working directly with the customer and attending meetings regularly. This position will work onsite daily and travel less than 20 miles to the customer’s location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducting service calls.
- Systems testing and inspections to the prescribed standards.
- Performing on-site emergency troubleshooting and maintaining of customer’s Life Safety systems.
- Identifying code issues and discrepancies.
- Preparing accurate, timely Technician worksheets (TWS) and reports.
- Installing Life Safety systems.
- Responsible for providing the testing and repair documentation and ensuring it is filled out accurately, completely, and turned in for proper invoicing.
- Responsible for ensuring the customer has all required copies of all required documentation upon servicing equipment.
- Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders & distributing to sales associates for processing.
- May include the use of company-provided assets such as but not limited to: Company Vehicle, Inventory, Safety Equipment, Laptop, LSI Scanner, Test Equipment, Tools, Radio, Cell Phone, Fuel Card and/or Credit Card.
- Associates are required to maintain proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies
- Providing customer service in the area of installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems. Including, but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water-Based Systems.
- Basic knowledge of regulatory standards of assigned duties; i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, etc.
- Exhibit safe work practices at all times.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- High School or GED
- Minimum 4 Certifications (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field
- NICET II 3-5 years exp or
- Fire Alarm & Ext A 3-5 yrs exp or
- RME-I (if applicable)
- Mechanically inclined
- Strong communication skills
- WBS Construction 3-5 yrs exp
Requirements:
- Experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair, and service of life safety systems and equipment.
- Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
- Maintain minimum productivity of 90% within 60 days.
- Advanced Industry segment knowledge.
- Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
- Proficient with hand tools.
- Able to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
- Able to provide assistance, advice, and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel.
- Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
- Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
- Must pass drug & Alcohol screen, Physical exam, and background check.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, and quality instructions).

- Working conditions will vary with service work being performed indoors and also out in the field.
- The possibility of working in hazardous environments when working within a plant would require safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
- Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during the day or night operations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing a maximum of 55 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24’ high.
- Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
- Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
- Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access to equipment to repair and service.
- Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore. (If Applicable)
