JOB PURPOSE:
The Safety Manager will ensure that all Independent Electric’s associates maintain a safe working environment. This position will develop, implement, and facilitate a company-wide “Safety and DOT Maintenance program” through a hands-on approach. This position will manage the full safety, DOT, and Worker Compensation processes providing support and a resource to the branch and department managers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and facilitate a comprehensive, company-wide “Safety Program”
- “Safety and DOT Program” to include but not limited to:
- Risk Management
- Deliver proactive Leading indicators to include training and all overall safety Curriculum
- Report Lagging indicators (metrics) (accident demographics) Compliance of OSHA, DOT, and other federal, state or local requirements (including administration of applicable records)
- Safety Award Program
- Safety Newsletter
- Customer Prequalification’s programs (safety, driving, and insurance), ISNWorld, Avetta, and PICS
- Employee Safety and Lifesaving Training
- Workplace Injury & Illness Prevention and Reporting
- Branch Safety Inspections
- Analyze data and implement strategies to address areas of weakness opportunity
- Vehicle Safety Initiative
- Deliver proactive leading indicators to include driver training curriculum
- Manage TPS and Telematics
- Fleet review and drivers’ safety recommendations with peer group
- Identify gaps for DOT coverage/compliance
- Fleet Management Database with mileage capture/expanded key metrics
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Required to sit, speak, hear, read, type, use close and distance vision (about 5-8 hours per shift).
- Climbing one or more steps onto tractor trailers and staired mezzanine, required.
- May be required to lift up to 50lbs., unassisted.
- May require walking and standing for up to 60% of each shift.
WORK LOCATION: San Leandro, CA or Phoenix, AZ
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
This position works in a normal office environment as well as a warehouse environment, with standard office equipment. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. while working in the office. The noise level in the warehouse environment is usually moderate and temperature can change based on the season. This position also requires frequent travel to branches, which may include one or more hours of driving. Branch locations may include a variety of environments including outdoor with inclement weather.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A or B.S.) from a 4-year college or University; or 10 years' of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification rating of STS or greater through Board of Certified Safety Professional
- OSHA 30 required, OSHA 501 General Industry training, preferred
- Experience in workplace safety leadership role; training, coaching, leading,
- Experience in providing and driving Workplace Safety Programs
- Experience in Injury & Accident Investigation and Prevention
- Experience in HazCom training, tracking, and reporting
- Experience in Worker’ Compensation DTD handling claim and return to work programs
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE NEEDED: Manager
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Electrical, Industrial, and/or distribution experience preferred but not required
- Proven track record in safety implementation and culture successes at the root level
