Sorrel River Ranch is a luxury guest ranch located along the scenic Colorado River surrounded by 2,000-foot-high cliffs, buttes, and mesas. This exclusive 240-acre riverside oasis is 17 miles from Moab, 21 miles from Arches National Park and 43 miles from Canyonlands National Park.
The Maintenance & Grounds department at Sorrel River Ranch is looking for an Experienced Hay Farmer and Irrigation specialist. Our department maintains and cares for 61 acres of Fescue and orchard grass for our resort.
FARMER HAY & IRRIGATION SPECIALIST MIN REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Degree or GED
- AA, or Asor greater in Agriculture management, or certification, or equivalent experience;
- Other training or certifications for Hay Production or other agriculture management programs.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and/or Google Suite products.
- Able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in the UT heat and cold.
- Occasionally may be exposed to rain, wind, snow, cold, lightning, or hail.
FARMER HAY & IRRIGATION SPECIALIST DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct responsibility for the care & feeding, general maintenance, cultivating, planting, irrigation, and harvesting of hay.
- Management and maintenance of resort’s Rainbird irrigation systems for all fields and landscaping.
- Hands on knowledge, moving, and care for wheel-lines, pop-up systems, and 360 adjustable units and replacements.
- Experience programming and setting up sprinkler control valves for large properties.
- Fertilization & watering of 61 acres of property fescue and orchard grasses to generate hay for the resort.
- Assist in the management and assignments of duties for ground crews for field’s maintenance and care.
- Work closely with Director of Engineering Department in the upkeep and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Management of hay production, cutting, raking, and bailing of all hay products for the resort.
- 4 years or more of Hands-On experience working in hay production in all aspects thereof, including but not limited to the care and maintenance of equipment.
- Experience working with Hay production equipment including but not limited to, Bailer, Swather, Hay Rake, Tractors, Brush Hog Mower, and Bail Wagon.
- Management, maintenance, and repairs for irrigation systems as well as pumps.
- Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and Grounds departments to accomplish departmental goals.
- Knowledge and experience in agriculture use of fertilizers, disease treatment for vegetation, fumigation, and pest controls.
- Experience seeding and planting of a variety of grasses or ground covers
FARMER HAY & IRRIGATION SPECIALIST REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

- 4 or more years working in management of Hay Production and processing
- 4 or more years’ experience in soil amendments and preparation for hay production.
