What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Sotheby's?
THE ROLE
The Financial Analyst will assist in the day-to-day activities for the Finance team and will be primarily responsible for the preparation of financial statements as well as analyzing of P&L and balance sheet accounts. This role will work cross-over with accounting and financial analysis related duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use systems and tools to provide significant analysis, data, and insights to finance leadership in the annual planning and periodic forecast process
- Consolidation and monitoring of forecast completion
- Drill downs into account components
- Identification of unusual and large variances
- Preparation and distribution of divisional and departmental forecast P&Ls
- Preparation of monthly forecast package that is reviewed with Global Head of Finance
- Preparation of monthly performance and package that are reviewed by CEO and CFO with shareholders
- Preparation of financial statements (financials and footnotes)
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards
- Analysis of certain P&L and balance sheet accounts
- Involvement with special projects in both controllership and FP&A as they arise
- Assist in the global consolidation and close process
- Assist with the internal control process
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Four-year degree in accounting
- 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience
- Proficient with Word and Excel
- Knowledge of SAP and/or HFM / Oracle is a plus
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities
- Organized, detail oriented and a great team player
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment
- Interest in the world of art is a plus
