Sales Director, Jewelry LA

THE ROLE

The Sales Manager is responsible for developing Luxury sales revenue through all Sotheby’s business channels (auctions, selling exhibitions, retail and private sales) by leveraging opportunities to engage new and existing clients in buying and selling at Sotheby’s. This role will focus on the Los Angeles OR NYC market (depending on candidate location).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Business development: Auctions/Private Sales/Retail – live and online
• Actively participate in consignment sweeps, appraisals, traveling exhibitions and events globally
• Attend major regional sales
• Target high-value consignment opportunities and negotiate profitable margins
• Increase private sale revenue by growing awareness of private-sale capabilities and Sotheby’s Diamonds inventory  
• Work with the Preferred team to ensure that the Luxury Division are represented in all Preferred events (when appropriate) and leverage industry connections to design exciting and meaningful events for top clients
• Develop strong relationships with regional colleagues and work as part of the senior team to promote and sell every major Luxury sale worldwide 
• Source, curate and deliver selling exhibitions and retail selling opportunities (online and offline)

Clients

• Actively manage key client relationships to enhance client loyalty and generate business
• Identify new private clients interested in collecting Luxury goods and develop them to actively transact with us
• Actively engage with clients at worldwide Luxury exhibitions and at both internal and external events
• Elevate regionally the quality of the client experience on our exhibitions, in collaboration with Marketing Department iImage, marketing and communication
• Maintain high profile within the Luxury sector and wider arts communities by attending major art fairs, exhibitions and museum openings
• Drive social media activity through Sotheby’s Instagram accounts 
• Collaborate with Marketing and Press & Communication teams to generate digital and print content, through targeted marketing initiatives, as well as editorial, print and panel discussions, to promote jewels & watches 
• Act as key point of contact and a spokesperson for the global press team when needed

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

• 7 years of experience selling high end branded/fine jewelry 
• Graduate Gemology degree, or similar training preferred 
• Ability to operate in accordance with the company’s rules on compliance and corporate governance at all times
• Ability to maintain high levels of expertise and professionalism in all activities
• Hunger for continuous learning by developing appraisal and pricing skills across all types of gemstones and Jewels & Watches general knowledge
