What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer position at Source Production & Equipment Company?
Implementation and maintenance of a suitable and effective radiation safety program in accordance with Louisiana Radiation Regulations and communications and liaison with the Louisiana Division of Radiation Protection.
The assistant(s) to the RSO is(are) responsible for the administration of radiation surveys, evaluations and personnel training necessary to adhere to applicable regulatory requirements and to prevent unnecessary radiation exposures or contamination to employees, members of the general public or the environment.
Duties and responsibilities:
The Assistant RSO is responsible for the implementation of SPEC’s radiation safety program. These duties include the following:
- Ensure that daily, monthly and quarterly radiation and contamination surveys are performed, documented, compared with TLD readings, posted and filed. Report annual employee dosages in writing.
- Monitor calibration and maintenance of radiation detection, instrumentation, and measurement equipment.
- Annual inter-industry calibrations.
- Provide guidance to personnel when contamination levels exceed requirements.
- Oversee and assist DEQ during annual inspections.
- Conduct personnel contamination monitoring through spot audits.
- Contamination survey monitoring of both buildings.
- Radiation survey monitoring of both buildings.
- Environmental surveys: air monitors, Hot Cell exhaust system.
- Oversee all leak test.
- Monitor all waste disposal.
- Monitor all sealed source disposal.
- Oversee all posting and labeling.
- Monitor all decontamination activities.
- Oversee internal emergency response, in conjunction with direct guidance from RSO.
- Report to RSO any special projects required; set up plan and special instructions, to ensure safety to all personnel.
- Lead any decontamination activities and oversee internal emergency responses
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
