Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Human Resource Director, the Benefits & Payroll Specialist is responsible for performing activities related to human resources such as payroll, personnel records, benefits, and employee orientation. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Orient new employees by explaining policies and procedures, obtaining required employee information, and advising employees of benefits packages.
- Prepare spreadsheets and databases to track employee-related information.
- Maintain current and former employee files in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Completes tasks assigned by upper level staff related to processing and coordinating the production of payrolls within established timeframes.
- Maintain leave balances and review timecards for accuracy.
- Provides technical assistance concerning payroll, insurance, and other benefits, as needed.
- Scan and index files through the imaging system.
- Answer departmental phone calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of computers and software application programs, including Microsoft office and HRIS systems.
- Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping procedures.
- Must have excellent customer service techniques and attitude.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry and manipulate data to generate reports and documents.
- Ability to compose, proofread and edit correspondence, reports, and other documents requiring extensive attention to detail.
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in general business, or related field.
- Two to Four years related experience.
- Higher education experience a plus
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field
- Jenzabar, Paycom or other HRIS experience
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to seat and look at computer screens for extended periods of time. The position will require extended periods of sitting. The individual should have the ability to lift up to 10 pounds. The individual must be able to discriminate between colors. The individual needs to have good finger dexterity.
