What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Assistant position at South Bend Orthopaedics?
South Bend Orthopaedics is searching for a full-time Accounting Assistant to join our team! This position is responsible for assisting the accounting department with daily functions- including posting and processing of accounting transactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Daily Registration Batches- Opening of all registration batches, balancing to make sure they are accurate, creating deposit tickets, and taking deposits to bank twice per week.
2. Deposit and record miscellaneous income.
3. Accounts Payable- Sorting mail, matching invoices to packing slips and approval when necessary, enter invoices into Mas90, obtain physician signatures, and mail out checks within due dates.
4. Processes account payable checks and voided checks. Answers payment inquiries and process associated correspondence. Maintains incoming AP email address.
5. Assists with the preparation of monthly journal entries, worksheets and analysis.
6. Assists in balancing and posting information to general ledger.
7. Maintains an organized filing system for financial records.
8. Prepares 1099s at year-end to appropriate vendors and independent contractors.
9. Assists in balancing cash and reconciling bank accounts. Helps compile financial and statistical data and assists in the preparation of financial reports as assigned.
10. Scans all paid invoices and other accounting documents.
11. Reconciling lockbox deposits with Athena postings and unpostable worklists.
12. Uploading mail payments and correspondence to Athena.
13. Participates in educational activities.
Other accounting related duties as assigned.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of general accounting systems and procedures.
2. Knowledge of basic mathematics.
3. Navigate and comprehension of computer software systems in office setting, 10-key calculator and prefer 50wpm typing skill.
4. Understand and interpret policies and regulations.
5. Excellent attention to detail.
6. Communicate effectively and ability to work with co-workers as a team member.
7. Ability to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential information.
The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum two years of accounting experience at data entry/clerical position; preferred experience in a health care organization.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Primarily office setting. Minimal exposure to communicable diseases.
Work may require hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending
to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands, some heavy lifting or sitting for extended periods of time.
Requires use of computer equipment, work requires ability to walk, sit stand, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Standing, sitting for up to 8 or more hours/day while doing computer input and responding to phone questions. Work requiring moderate speed and high degree of accuracy. Manual dexterity using calculator and computer keyboard. Occasional evening or weekend work.
